Breeding. A recent colonist, it arrived in Ireland in , after a rapid expansion through Europe in the preceding decades. It is now a widespread bird in Ireland but it shows a marked preference for suburbs, small towns and cereal growing areas.

The Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) is a dove species native to Europe and Asia; it was introduced to Japan, North America and islands in the Caribbean. Because of its vast global range and increasing population trend, it has been listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since Family: Columbidae.

Kennedy Wild Bird Food guide to the Collared Dove. Eurasian collared dove is similar to Rock Pigeons in that they have plump bodies, small heads and long tails, however, they are longer-tailed than the Pigeon and are larger than Mourning Doves. They are well known for their collar-like markings, hence the name, and are often a chalky brown-grey.

Mar 25,  · Collared doves are now seen in 62% of gardens and wood pigeons in 54%. The house sparrow tops the survey with an average birds recorded per garden but its numbers, like those of the starling, are in sharp decline. "A lot more people put food out in their gardens and collared doves and wood pigeons know where it is.

Jun 29,  · Got a lifer today on an Eurasian collared-dove, here in central British Columbia. Looking him up in Sibley, the range given certainly doesn't include here. But on opus it is opined that distribution maps for this species are out of date quickly and says they are present here. Could'a knocked me over with a feather. A very attractive bird.
